Oh, also screenplays. Is there a huge difference between book and screenplay? Or is it almost the same?

@Stephie2309 - I love almost everything about being a professional writer, but it is a very lonely profession. I work alone most of the time, and don't get to hear reader feedback until months or even years later. Luckily I have such great readers and friends around me!

@Juliabookaholic - Oh yes, I doubted RED QUEEN many times. I almost never finished writing it. I got stuck in the middle and the only reason I continued is a friend was reading it and kept bugging me to finish, just so she could know the ending!

How do you know how you build up a story best?

It would be really nice to meet you!:) While you are writing what are the most important things you need(chocolate, tea..)?

@Phoebe Isabella - I love having music when I write. Making the playlists is half the fun, and it helps me get in the zone. But there are some scenes or tricky parts that I need quite to write. I usually brainstorm my fight scenes to music as well. Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, and Sia are really big for the Red Queen books.

Will there be more Mare and Cal action in the future?

@sharkygirl - Yes, I thought Jurassic World was fun! Nothing on the original, but still fun!

For me you sound like a very strong person! Was the time you doubted in your book hard for you?

Does love is going to play a bigger rule in the second book? And my other question, completely out of the context, do you have any pets at home? And if the answer is yes which one? and how is/are his/their name(s)?

@nicky.rienecker - Hi Nicky. Writing is my medicine. I find it cures a lot of ills, and even if it can't fix things, it still offers an escape. I also have my favorite movies and books around, if writing doesn't do the trick. I like computer games too, particularly The Sims and Crusader Kings.

@Juliabookaholic - ELLA ENCHANTED was the first fantasy I remember reading, and it's still one of my favorites. As are LORD OF THE RINGS, HARRY POTTER, and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA.

@Chaolaena23 - I LOVE MAPS. I've loved maps since I was very little, and actually started writing because I wanted to tell the stories of the people in the maps I drew. Inspiration-wise, I try to craft a world that is as realistic as possible and then shape it to the story I want to tell.

@Juliabookaholic - For books vs. screenplays: the formats are very, very different, but for me, the bones are the same. I use the same story structure, rules, and reliance on visual for both. Books just give you more room to move, but screenplays help you move faster.

What would you give somone on the way to write as themselve?

@Katmax - I like to have coffee, but don't absolutely need it. The #1 thing I have to have is time. I need to have a clear schedule, at least several hours, so I don't have to focus on anything but writing!

OMG this is so cool really! Because I love maps in books so you can imagine the world in the book better and that you draw the maps by yourself is even better :)

@Juliabookaholic - Oh yes, it was very hard. I had no idea what I was doing or if it was even worth it. Six months later, the book was finished and sold, but that month of doubt was really, really difficult.

Hello & Welcome Victoria :) First I have to say I am huge fan of your writing. "Red Queen" got me hooked pretty quick. Do you listen to music while you writing? If so, which song would be perfect for Cal? And I wanted to ask how you got the idea to write Cal and Maven? What inspired you?? Niki

@HerzundSeelelserin - Love (romantic, platonic, and familial) is the driving force behind all my characters. I don't have any pets currently, but I grew up with two cats, Oliver and Mowgli. I miss them a lot!

But you have created it and also this time has been worthwhile! Do you re-write your chapter some times ?

17.07.2015
@Juliabookaholic - Reading a lot, finding inspiration in everything from books to movies to the world around you, is so important to writing. You need to experience things, both in a story and in your own life. And of course, write as much as you can!

@Fantasyworld - Hi! A good song for Cal is Demons by Imagine Dragons. I do listen to a lot of music (I have so many playlists on my Spotify if you want to check them out). And Cal and Maven evolved with the story. There's definitely a Thor and Loki vibe too.

I also want to write myself, but I do not have so much assurance and then the ideas, but thanks are sometimes absent for your tips!

@Juliabookaholic - Oh yes, I rewrite a good amount. Usually during the first draft, if something isn't working, I cut it all entirely!

Oh! I missed to ask one question I was very interested it! If there are audio books of your books in other languages (for example german), do you hear them a little bit just to hear your story in another language? =)
Phoebe Isabella

The playlists Sounds very good and sometimes it's better just to write without any Sounds around yourself. Did you hear Ellie Goulding when you write the emotional scenes?
Victoria Aveyard
17.07.2015
@cornelia.mann.7 - The German cover is...BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to see what they come up with for the second book, which I love!

@sarah.runge.007 - I go based off the books for favorite characters, but I love Jaime, Arya, Sansa, Brienne, Stannis, all of the Martells and Tyrells, Wyman Manderly, and of course Tyrion.

Thank you very much for answering my question. I really appreciate it. But I have one last question: Did you ever regret one decision you made while storytelling? Like killing a character or letting somebody fallen in love with someone? P.S. Thank you so much, Victoria, for creating such great characters. After reading the first chapter i liked Mare so much, i had to go on!! :-)
